Bermingham and Robinson's new work entitled False Beards seem to belong to an indeterminate era. As they float on an orange pin-board it is hard to decipher what is their purpose or what they are made from. On first glance the beards themselves bring a number of thoughts to mind, thoughts of disguise and fakery, wisdom and intelligence, a tabloid stereotype of terrorists is hard to suppress, and while the pin-board may seem reminiscent of a cricket teams notice board, the hirsute style is less W.G.Grace and more 1970's P.E. teacher.

On closer inspection, we discover their truth. They are made from 'dust and hair from underneath a series of Anish Kapoor sculptures'.  In using this specific detritus from one of the countries, if not the worlds most successful and viewed artists Bermingham & Robinson appear to be hoping that some of this success will be transferred to them. 

This enterprise has the feeling of Greek Mythology, our hero's stealing objects from the Gods so they can disguise themselves and move amongst them.  As if by magic the beards on their orange ground suddenly make sense, their purpose is clear, they do not belong to terrorists or P.E teachers but to two characters from ancient Greece that hope to transcend from the everyday into another world that is just out of reach.
